Is referred to, in conversation between Tom Paris and Kes in Voyager's future, as having died during the 'Year of Hell', during which Voyager fights a running battle with the Krenim. Is seen during Voyager's time at the Utopia Planetia dry dock, where he flirts shamelessly with Seven of Nine. When Tuvok hallucinates in the cargo bay, Carey asks him if everything is ok.
Reveals that he had a wife who was pregnant. He goes on the away mission to retrieve the Friendship One probe, and is punched, concussed, shot and killed! Is referred to, later, in a conversation between Janeway and Chakotay, as they sit in his quarters discussing a model of Voyager he had only one nacelle left to complete.
